My road to 1,000 YouTube subscribers (growth strategy that’s actually working)

I recently started taking my social media and online presence seriously to hit 1000 YouTube subscribers.

In the next 3 months, my goal is to hit 1000 subscribers. I know it’s a super ambitious goal but it is something I am working towards religiously.

This is only going to be possible through trust, clarity and consistent video uploads. I am not chasing the algorithm so much but I am definitely focused on finding my people.

It also serves as a documentation of my journey through the whole process. I’m recording everything from what kind of niche I’m working on to what’s not working and what’s helping my channel grow.

Let’s talk about my strategies of building your subscriber base slowly and seriously:


First of all, the first 1000 subscribers matters are your true fans

Why though? Because these are your people who support you when you’re small, when you’re no one and especially when you’re struggling.

It’s like family who are with you in your ups and downs. This is your baby phase.

I salute all my 184 subscribers until now.

1,000 subscribers does unlock monetization however that is not the only reason why this goal is super important to me.

What does 1,000 subscribers mean to me?

  • I have found the audience that relates to my message
  • The content I am creating has clarity and is clear for people to stay
  • It is another long term online asset I am building online
  • There is very little room for mistakes after this so I can screw up as many times as I want until I get established

This number is a milestone for me in terms of growth, validation and alignment with my soul’s work.


Going viral is never the goal

It is essential for me to grow valuable to the right people, to find the right people and to find the right community.

The more I learn about my community, I’ll be able to tailor my content accordingly and help people.

1. Becoming strategic and intentional with clear positioning when it comes to content creation

Posting for me has become laser focused.

Every hashtag, caption, CTA and headline is well researched.

Every video is created to answer pain points or authentically share my journey with the world.

Each video is tailored for

  • The right audience
  • Their pain points and giving them the solution
  • What they get out of subscribing to my channel
  • A digital product I can offer to them in return for watching my video

Consistency and clarity goes a long way


2. Consistent Uploads, Better Quality Videos

The only format of content I am posting daily is shorts and text based posts.

However, when it comes to long form content, I’m uploading on days that are better suited to my birth chart (Yeah, I know but I love astrology).

On days when I do not feel energetically aligned, I don’t post!

My focus is on

  • Titles that are clickworthy to my audience addressing their pain point directly
  • Looking at topics people are searching for when they look for my videos
  • Evergreen content that stays relevant for weeks and years later

The slower the growth, the better for me because then I’ve time to improvise.


3. My titles are search focused

This where ChatGPT comes in handy.

I define my audience demographics and my niche and then prompt it to give me titles that can answer pain points for my demographics.

Based on that, I tailor my videos to inculcate my journey into it

Recently I have been creating videos that:

  • Answer questions people are already searching for
  • Documenting my process and share my authentic process
  • Show people behind the scenes so it builds trust

I am not worried about creating the perfect video. YouTube rewards clarity over perfectionism


Things I have stopped doing

And this is key for content creators getting started in the beginning

What I stopped:

  • Overthinking every video
  • Comparing myself to other creators and their channels
  • Changing my pivot over and over again because I see someone else being successful in it
  • Waiting for perfection before posting
  • Waiting to be ready before uploading
  • The worst one – NOT posting at all

The more you post, the more you grow, the more you become confident


I am asking people to subscribe without begging

I’ll be honest with you, I was never good at the CTA or asking people to subscribe game.

I am learning about shameless self promotion though

Because when you don’t ask, you don’t receive

However, I’m doing it a bit differently:

  • Talk to my viewers like they are my friends
  • Share about my process and the content they can expect
  • Invite them to watch my other videos and read my blog posts to build authority

The right subscribers will stay no matter what.


The other platforms that are helping me YouTube growth

These days once cannot rely on one social. It’s practically impossible to focus purely on YouTube and expect to get subscribers out of thin air.

I am distributing content into 8 different platforms. Yeah, don’t worry there’s a cool tool for it called Metricool! It has literally saved hours of time in my content creation workflow.

I’m posting content daily across:

  • Long form content on my blog, newsletter and substack
  • Short form content
  • Text based content on twitter, threads and bluesky. Mastodon got left out but try that as well

Socializing with other creators in other domains

Just spending 30 minutes everyday to comment on other people’s reels. Afterall, everyone wants engagement and to be appreciated.

As a content creator, it is my moral right to support other creators so they make money as well

What I have learned so far

My biggest lesson while on the road to 1000 subscribers is this:

Growth is slow when you’re building in public something real

However, the rewards are immeasurable!

Every video is intentional and improves my confidence

Every subscriber is a validation to my niche and direction

Every upload feeds data to the algorithm

Oh and the most important one, the courage to be fearless and bold when it comes to visibility

Then I highly encourage you to stop feeling small or fearing and go post that video

As a creator, please don’t shrink yourself in any form

You’re building something that is evergreen.
